“He (Jesus) answered, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.’”
Luke 10: 27
“From the Power of the Christ Within I Live My Soul Purpose and Create New Good in My Life, My Community, and the World”
Rev. Anna – Unity of Austin’s 90 Days of Affirmative Prayer
Your soul has important things to tell you about you! But if you are going to hear those things, you have to be able to hear and willing to listen. What makes that possible? The suffering of the ego. It’s been said that when the ego suffers the soul is rejoicing. What!!! That sounds sadistic! That saying means that when the best laid defenses that your ego working by itself has built fall apart, you can finally realize there is something more. There is more to you and there is more to life. That’s why a broken heart is a gift, a financial crisis is an opportunity, and an illness is a doorway. It’s up to you to choose to receive the gift, say yes to the opportunity, and to walk through the doorway. When we are no longer focused on polishing our appearance but instead on sorting out how to survive, we find the stillness within us. That’s where our soul resides. It is the go-between that is the connection between our Christ nature and our human ego. Our soul looks to the Christ for power and inspiration and brings that into our human experience.
This is true for us as individuals and it is true for us as a church community. This Sunday we here at Unity of Austin will celebrate Recommitment Sunday. We, as have our nation and our world, have definitely been through an ego dismantling experience the last almost two years. The covid pandemic, the outed racism, and exposed inequalities have shaken our definition of ourselves to the core. It’s been painful. And it’s been good. For we are discovering a deeper sense of self, a fuller willingness to live from spiritual values, and a profound understanding of our oneness with all people and creation. This is what our soul is telling us about ourselves. And it’s powerful, perhaps something we had never imagined was in us.
We now move into a new phase of our lives. Our 90 Days of Affirmative Prayer have energized us to make this pilgrimage. This Sunday we celebrate recommitment to our spiritual lives and to our spiritual community. The flow of Spirit vitalizes us for all that is ahead. Your soul is calling and it has important things to tell you. Listen!
In the Love and Light of the Christ,
Rev. Anna
