When life knocks us down we work hard to get up—we seek more information, get more organized, improve our methods, give it one more try. That’s all good as far as it goes. But none of this heals the deep wounds of the soul and heart—only wise love can do that. Who wants to give up good solid action for the possibility of catching a whiff of love? But our spiritual nature won’t leave us alone. It insists we give up our persistent shallow activity. It demands that we let the hidden love of our being find us where we live. It calls us deep into ourselves. It insists that we embrace who we are. And requires that we discover communion. The fox in The Little Prince understood, “Here is my secret. It is very simple: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.”
