“Love intentionally, extravagantly, unconditionally. The broken world waits in darkness for the light that is you.”
L. R. Knost
“But truly it is the spirit in a mortal, the breath of the Almighty, that makes for understanding.”
Job 32:8
The last place you want to be when an ocean storm hits is sailing in a small boat. The wave-propelled rollercoaster could easily upend you into a disastrous capsize. But if you are a whale, storms are no biggie. You just dive deep to swim where the water is peaceful, bursting up to the surface for a quick breath now and then. We have the same wisdom as the whale. When the surface of life is churning, we too move into the deeps. Consciously aware of our Christ nature, we connect with spiritual understanding. We know.
Ocean storms are creative. They cleanse and oxygenate the ocean, replenish the water with nutrients, deposit sand on barrier islands, and carry land seeds and spores to new grounds. Human storms are the same. Seeing from our Christ Consciousness, we understand human turbulence for what it is—the stirring up and tossing away of outworn ideas, rigidities, and harmful habits of relating. We realize that light is birthing through dark clouds and that new land is forming through roiling seas. Seeds are planting themselves in fresh places, ready to sprout joyful innovations nourished by love.
Whether we are experiencing storms that are very personal or those that are stirring across our society – usually it is both – there is no need for us to capsize. We can turn our attention to that place within us that is love, peace, and strength. Our way there is sure for we have walked it many times in prayer. The Spirit in us welcomes our coming, showing us that we are the light and the love that is birthing so extravagantly through the storm.
In the Love and Light of the Christ,
