Stay Close to What Makes You Glad to Be Alive! – Heartnotes Feb. 1, 2018

I’m not sure who exactly penned those words–it may have been the Sufi poet Rumi.  Whoever wrote it got it right.  God is Life itself and is always calling us to stay engaged in vibrancy and joy.  That takes conscious inner focus since not everything that happens in the outer sparks our joy.  But we have spiritual power within us, our innate ability to choose how we are going to relate to what happens.  An Asian proverb expresses it this way, “That the birds of worry and care fly over your head, that you cannot prevent.  However, you do not have to allow them to build a nest in in your hair.”  Situations come and go.  Our work is to see them as opportunities rather than defeats.  We have the power to grow in our ability to attach our energy–our emotions, attitudes, and actions–to the potential for good.   This is what makes the quality of our life go up.  This is what makes us glad to be alive!  We aren’t alone in this endeavor.  We have spiritually awakened friends to walk alongside.  We have inspirational books and media to open our hearts.  We have our church community to support us with celebrations, prayer, fellowship, and classes.  And most deeply we have our Elder Brother Jesus Christ to guide us and our conscious contact with Mother-Father God to shower us with love.  Friends, we are not alone.  Life itself stays close to us in myriad ways and it invites us to stay consciously close to it.   Do that and you will be glad to be alive!

In the Love and Light of the Christ,

Rev. Anna
