“Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing.”
John 15:4-5
“In the inner stillness where meditation leads, the Spirit secretly anoints the soul and heals our deepest wounds.”
St. John of the Cross, 16th century Spanish mystic and saint
When life knocks us down we work hard to get up—we seek more information, get more organized, improve our methods, give it one more try. That’s all good as far as it goes. But these efforts alone do not heal the deep wounds of the soul and heart—only love can do that. Who wants to give up good solid action for the possibility of catching a whiff of love? Thank goodness (truly) that our spiritual nature won’t leave us alone. It insists we give up our persistent shallow activity, our attempts to rearrange outer circumstances, our conviction that if only we could find the right technique all would be well. Our spiritual nature demands that we let the hidden love of our being find us where we live. It calls us deep into ourselves. It insists that we embrace who we are. And requires that we discover communion with our Christ within.
Whatever you are experiencing, let love find you, let love heal you. Love is the awareness that God is our Divine Friend, within us and all around us. No hurt, no memory, no current difficulty can separate us from that all-powerful healing presence. Love is the assurance that we are in the flow of living, in the flow of good. Opening your heart and mind to the reality of Divine Love will refresh your body, uplift your mood, clear your mind, open your vision, and connect you with healthy caring people. Your good is assured. The fox in The Little Prince understood, “Here is my secret. It is very simple: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.” Open yourself – let love find you, let love heal you.
