Spirituality is all about growing up. We don’t have a choice about growing up physically. I just happens. However, growing up emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually requires conscious choice. Becoming an authentic adult means we discover, accept, embrace, and express who we are. It’s hard work. We have to make the unconscious conscious, bring what is hidden into the light of day, release we have worshipped that is anything short of the living God. Jesus the master psychologist was always inviting people to follow the life within them. People were fascinated by Jesus and the peace and power he exuded. They wanted it too and said they would follow him. Jesus knew they had little concept of what that would demand of them. He had a requirement—let go of that within you that is deadening and embrace your life. “But Jesus said to him, ‘Let the dead bury their own dead; but as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.’ “ Luke 9:60. He didn’t always have takers on this. The world needs adults in the room—people who take the risk to examine their lives, to let go of ideas that constrict and divide. People who have the courage to find authentic life and wholeness within and express it in the light of day.
